John Deere Says New XUV 865R Gator Is Its Most Comfortable Crossover Utility Vehicle Ever
John Deere has announced what it says is the “most comfortable model every produced” in its XUV (cross-over utility vehicle) Gator range: the new XUV 865R Gator. The 23-horsepower (17-kilowatt), four-wheel-drive diesel model includes fully independent four-wheel suspension, a 42-litre fuel tank, power steering, and seating for three off-road or two on public roads. The XUV 865R also features an ergonomically redesigned cab with a tan-coloured interior, automobile-style controls, heating and air conditioning, a roof that whisks water to the outer edges, and high-level front and rear lights.
With Comfort In Mind
Deere offers Gators in work utility and cross-over utility models. Besides the enclosed-cab 865R, the XUV range include the 560E, 590M, 590M S4, 855M, 855M S4, 835M, and 865M. The 865R, Deere says, combines the “remarkable” performance of the 835M and 865M with numerous comfort-minded features, including an adjustable 40/60 bench seat, tilting steering wheel, sun visors, windshield wiper and washer, high- and low-beam LED headlights, and electrical wiring for attachments.
The 865R’s 854cc three-cylinder, liquid-cooled diesel engine produces 23 horsepower at 3,600rpm. The vehicle itself can reach a top speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) in high range. The four-wheel-drive system, meanwhile, includes an auto-locking front differential and dash-mounted electronic rocker switch to enhance operation. Elsewhere, the deluxe cargo box is constructed of composite material, which Deere says eliminates rust and dents and reduces noise. Convertible to a flat-bed position, the cargo box has a 454-kilogram (1,000-pound) load capacity. Tow capacity is 900 kilograms (1,984 pounds), while total payload capacity is 680 kilograms (1,500 pounds).
