John Deere Next-Gen 8-Series Tractors Have More Power, Advanced Tech
John Deere recently unveiled its redesigned, next-generation 8-Series tractors, six new models with higher horsepower options, improved manoeuvrability, and precision ag technology for greater efficiency and versatility.
"These tractors are designed to get work done," says Michael Porter, John Deere marketing manager for large tractors. "The new horsepower options, technology, and other customer-driven changes make these tractors the ultimate planting tractor, planting up to 1,200 acres each day during those tight weather windows. Whether you need to plant with a 24-plus row planter, pull large grain carts, or midsize seeders, these new 8-Series tractor options have the productivity and technology to help with all your plant, harvest, and tillage work."
Increased Automation
To improve performance, the 8R and 8RX tractors are equipped with the G5Plus display to allow users to access AutoTrac Turn Automation, AutoTrac Implement Guidance, Auto Path, and other precision ag technologies.
The tractors’ Reactive Command Steering, which automatically centres the steering wheel and has three settings to allow operators to customise their steering, works with their tight turn radius and narrower frame to improve manoeuvrability.
More Power When You Need It
The 8R and 8RX tractors are powered by the JD14 engine and the Intelligent Power Management (IPM) system, or the optional peak-power IPM, which enables an additional 40 horsepower at 1,700 rpm, creating up to 634 HP for hydraulic, power take-off (PTO), transport, or electrical offboarding operations. The 8R tractors are available with 230, 250, 280, 310, 340, 370, 410, 440, 490, or 540 HP, while the 8RX tractors are available with 310, 340, 370, 410, 440, 490, 540 HP. (The 440-, 490-, and 540-HP options are new additions to the lineup.)
The hydraulic system has increased pump capacity with separate pumps for steering and braking. The Independent Link Suspension on the front axle has been updated to increase the transport speed to 37 mph (60 kph). Optional front hitch and front PTO are also available. The rear hitch lift capacity is 24,000 pounds (10,900 kilograms).
"We have incorporated an engine brake option that helps slow down the tractor without having to rely on brakes," Porter says. "This feature provides additional stopping power and reduces wear on the primary braking system, enhancing safety and control, especially when pulling heavy loads and driving on steep inclines. This has been a huge request for our transport customers."
Upgraded Operator Experience
The Electric Variable Transmission enables electric power offboarding to power electric drive planters. Three options for transmission controls are available. Operators can control who is able to start the tractor by requiring a personalised PIN for the push-button start.
Other new or upgraded features include:
- Engine throttle controls
- A convenience display to control the radio, air conditioning, seat, and phone
- A wireless charging phone holder
- Two-way independent armrest control
- An optional door cinch
- Increased hydraulic oil interval to 2,000 hours
