Forage Wagons For Sale

CLAAS used the opportunity of Grassland UK to introduce the brand new CARGOS 8000, a totally new concept for forage wagons. This innovative new machine is designed so that when it is not in use as a forage wagon the chopping and pick-up component can be easily removed in about a quarter of an hour and the machine fitted with a blanking plate, which allows the CARGOS 8000 to be used as a high-capacity standard farm trailer.

The CLAAS 9000 forage harvester has been around for some time, but the CARGOS 8000 is a smaller machine with a heavy-duty design that is better suited to achieving high crop outputs in the heavier conditions that you typically find in Britain and Ireland. You can choose from three models in the new CARGOS 8000 range. These are the 8300, 8400 and 8500, with loading volumes of 30, 35.5 and 41 cubic metres respectively. The new harvesters have a heavy-duty drive set-up, with a pneumatic pick-up and also an optional hydro-pneumatic suspension.

The crop is fed from the pick-up into the loading and cutting system by way of the 860mm diameter rotor, which has been fitted out with a helical arrangement of nine tine rows. These are attached by bolts so that they can be easily replaced if damaged. There is a bank of 40 double-edged blades in the chopping chamber, designed in this way so that they can be simply turned to reduce sharpening time. They are also pre-tensioned so that a precise quality of chop can be maintained.

The CARGOS 8000 has been designed to maximise productivity, and this has been achieved by the addition of a hydraulic drop floor. This ensures that the machine can be operated constantly at maximum capacity, because the operator can simply lower the floor when the harvester is overloaded, and any blockages can be removed simply by slowing the speed of the PTO from the safety of the driver’s seat. The new forage harvester also has a floor conveyor with a lowered floor. This can be pivoted through 90 degrees to allow easy access when changing the blades. It can also be pivoted upwards for easier unloading. There is the option of an automatic loading system, using a torque sensor mounted on the rotor or working by way of deflection of the front cover to boost efficiency.

The crop in the CARGOS 8000 is transferred from the chopping chamber along the floor conveyor and into the wagon. Here it is massed steeply so that the wagon’s full capacity can be used. The CARGOS 8000 also comes with a choice of a trio of different electronic control terminals. These include the powerful COMMUNICATOR II ISOBUS system, the small and simple OPERATOR unit or the ISOBUS Cable control system to allow the machine to be operated with the external ISOBUS system.

It is not often that a piece of farm machinery comes along that fundamentally changes the game in any particular area, but the innovative CARGOS 8000 has certainly achieved that.
