Forestry and Hedging For Sale

Working in the forestry and hedging sector is demanding work and demands proper equipment. Buying used forestry and hedging machinery can be a good investment, allowing you to stretch your budget to secure the best plant available.

Attachments for Use in Forestry and Hedging

There is a wide range of forestry and hedging equipment available to tackle even the most arduous tasks. Forestry attachments, for example, can convert standard machines to allow them to carry out more forestry specific tasks. These may include hedge cutter attachments, which can turn a standard tractor into a powerful hedge cutting machine. Wood chippers come in a range of sizes and capacities to suit both occasional use and serious contract work. They can also be PTO driven and be fitted to the standard three point linkage on a tractor, allowing them to be used in situ wherever the job demands. Similarly, Saw benches can be powered directly from the mains or can be PTO powered to allow them to be used on site.

One of the main items of forestry and hedging machinery is the hedge mower. This is a highly specialised piece of equipment and can be deployed to cut hedges as well as trimming the growth in difficult to reach embankments, ditches or road verges. The hedge mower often comes with a flail mower cutting attachment. This unit has a sequence of metal flails attached to a drum, which rotates to provide the cutting action. This type of hedge mower is extremely good at cutting back the type of tough vegetation that is typical of hedges and overgrown embankments. If a standard mower is used for this type of work it can often sustain damage as it hits some foreign object in the hedge or just some particularly tough vegetation. Where a flail mower is used, however, the flail will just bounce off the obstruction.

The hedge mower is typically attached to a standard tractor via the machine's three-point hitch and is powered via the tractor's PTO. When choosing a hedge mower it is important to consider how the unit is mounted. They can be mounted on the front, back or to the side of the tractor. While a rear-mounted hedge mower may offer the simplest configuration, a front-mounted unit has the advantage of good visibility, offering the operator a view of the cutting operations while maintaining clear visibility of the road ahead. A hedge mower mounted to the side is often used for better stability and is particularly suited to those operations requiring a longer reach of hedge mower.

A hedge mower has the cutting or flail drum connected to the tractor by way of a hydraulically operated and articulated boom. This allows for the maximum amount of reach and flexibility in cutting operations. You will also find attachments like angle and lift floats, which allows the machine to follow verge contours without manual input. A system known as parallel arm geometry, meanwhile, performs a similar duty to keep the boom alongside the hedge.

When buying forestry and hedging equipment it is vital to understand the sort of rigorous work that these machines carry out and conduct a comprehensive inspection of all components. It also makes sense to be sure that any forestry and hedging attachments are suited to any existing machinery.
