Forestry Attachments For Sale

The forestry sector is a unique working environment that demands a whole range of specialist equipment and attachments. That environment means that this equipment must meet the most demanding of specifications in order to deliver the performance required.

Working in the forestry sector brings with it a number of tough challenges. Many forest plantations are remote, so the equipment must be reliable and able to work without servicing for extended periods of time. It can also be a harsh environment that is wet, cold and exposed, so forestry attachments need to be tough. Another issue is simply access. Narrow forest tracks are not best suited to larger machines, while the ground can be soft and yielding, so heavier machines can easily get bogged down. Working between stands of trees can also be extremely tight, so manoeuvrability is a distinct advantage on any forestry machines. The terrain itself is often extremely uneven, and working on steep slopes is common. Any forestry attachments should therefore be capable of providing a stable working platform in these conditions. Lastly, timber itself is tough and heavy, so forestry attachments need to be capable of handling this and delivering real strength in these extreme environments.

The range of forestry attachments is large to tackle a wide range of tasks. Log splitters, for example, take on the job of processing the timber into manageable sizes, while hedge-cutters can be used to clear away the forest undergrowth to allow the forestry machines access to do their jobs. Specialist forestry trailers are available to haul the cut timber using a flat bed and retainer post set up to efficiently load and transport the logs. Log loaders come in a number of sizes and guises and can be used as attachments to load the cut timber on to the trailers. Another implement is the forestry crusher, which can transform waste wood in the form of spindly branches into useful pelleted fuel. As mentioned above, the forest environment can be a challenging and unforgiving one, so a forestry winch is almost an essential piece of kit. In addition to hauling timber across the forest floor, it can also be vital in pulling stranded forestry machinery out of trouble. Wood chippers can be used on-site to process waste timber into useful products, and there is a whole range of saws and combined saws and splitters to help process the timber efficiently.

Fencing is always a particular challenge in these sorts of environments, and post-driver attachments are on hand to perform this tricky task. These need to provide a stable platform while delivering the post at the required angle and to the necessary depth.

With such a wide range of forestry attachments to choose from, it would not be sensible to have a single one -size-fits-all approach to assessing the relative merits of a piece of forestry plant before purchase. Nevertheless, certain common factors hold true. This is tough work, so you should be looking for a machine with no signs of excess wear and one in which all operations are smooth. A good service history never goes amiss.
