Fork Lifts For Sale

Fork lifts can be found throughout the agricultural industry, making it possible to move pallets and equipment with ease. Fork lifts which are designed for use on farms tend to be a little more rugged and durable than those that will only see use indoors on warehouse and factory floors. And so for this reason it is important that buyers select an appropriate machine for their needs - one which is capable of operating outdoors and off-road while accommodating the kinds of loads that will make it a good investment.

Small and large fork lifts alike will usually be oriented with the fork at the front, although there are some models based on tractors which have a rear-mounted lifting mechanism. These tractor units are clearly intended for all-terrain use, meaning that they can operate over even the roughest, slipperiest and most uneven surfaces. The used market is home to fork lifts of all ages and specifications, and usually you will be able to learn a lot about a model from the description provided by the seller. Checking this will allow you to assess the state of the vehicle as well as check its capabilities and establish how many hours of usage it has clocked over its lifespan so far.

Farm Forklifts for saleWhat Size Forklift?

The size of the fork lift will not only determine the maximum payload it can handle, but also the height to which loads can be raised. Models weighing in at less than 500kg are available alongside larger alternatives tipping the scales at 3.5t or more. You can even find additional pieces of equipment which can be attached to the forks of certain models to allow them to be deployed for much more than just lifting, with sweeping units ensuring that they can be put to work in a variety of ways throughout the farm.

Smaller fork lifts with solid tyres and larger rough-terrain fork lifts intended for handling timber and other materials are similar in that when they are being sold second-hand, the masts and other mechanisms that are assembled in the lift need to be in a good state. Buyers may also want to check up on the condition of less critical components such as the seat and the operator's cab. Open models with roll cages for safety are featured alongside models with fully enclosed cabs.

Compact models can accommodate loads of 20,000kg or more, lifting pallets and other objects to heights of over three metres. And the way in which this mechanism is powered can vary from model to model, with some fork lifts harnessing electricity while others rely on gas motors and hydraulics. With so much variation in this market, it is sensible to carefully consider any potential purchase, inspecting its current state and also considering whether it will be the right piece of equipment to deploy on the farm. A well-maintained fork lift can provide tens of thousands of hours of operation without any unexpected malfunctions. And with improvements to efficiency made in recent years, newer models represent good value.
