Livestock Trailers For Sale

Livestock trailers are simply a vital tool in the movement of farm animals. They come in a number of sizes and configurations and are suited to a variety of animals.

Livestock trailers are designed to be simple and robust, and a used livestock trailer should be able to offer good service with only a minimum of service and maintenance requirements. Livestock trailers are available from the smallest unit, transporting only a couple of animals, up to large trailers for major transport needs. The livestock trailer may be pulled by a car or truck for road transport or it can be trailed by a tractor. Many different configurations are available depending on requirements. For example, demount livestock trailers are built with a a separate chassis. The trailer can then be lifted off completely, leaving the chassis to be used for other purposes.

Fixed formation trailers feature the wheels mounted to the sides of the main unit, instead of underneath. This means that the trailers can be lower, thus easing loading and giving better stability through a lower centre of gravity but this design can also limit the available width within the trailer.

Larger trailers may have their own braking systems, either powered by electricity via the vehicle or by hydraulic connection. They will also have their own independent suspension and lighting systems. All of these features must be examined closely to ensure proper working before any purchase. These systems aside, the livestock trailer is a fairly basic farm machine with little in the way of complex components to go wrong. This makes trailers an ideal candidate for a secondhand purchase. The welds, hinges and doors of the trailer should be checked for any sign of corrosion or damage and special attention should be paid to the underside of the trailer, which often suffers most from damage and corrosion. These simple checks aside, a used livestock trailer should offer many years of good service.
