Merlo is an Italian agricultural machinery manufacturer specialising in the production of telehandlers. It is based in Cuneo, Piedmont in the north-west of Italy. In this 220,000 square metre factory, the company builds the machines that are sold through a network of 600 dealers across the globe.

Merlo was founded in 1911 and operated as a small engineering workshop until it started producing major plant in 1964. Today the company focuses on technical innovation across its ranges of telehandlers, model access platforms and tracked carriers. Merlo prides itself on being a true manufacturer rather than a mere assembler and 95% of each Merlo machine is built in-house by the company’s own engineers. The factory produces more than 6,000 units per year and the company sells its machines in more than 100 different countries.

Merlo Telehandler Range

Merlo’s telehandler range extends to an incredible 90 models, divided into families according to their size. The range kicks off with the Ultra Compact family and the Panoramic P25.6 telescopic handler. It is a safe, robust and compact platform, ideal for operating in confined spaces that would be inaccessible to a larger telehandler. The P25.6 is only 1.8 metres wide and less than 2 metres in height but can still handle loads up to 2.5 tonnes and reach to six metres.

Merlo broke new ground with the first compact telehandler back in 1991, the innovative P20.6. The success of this concept has led to the expansion of the compact range, which now includes eight models. These compact models all share the same chassis but offer operators the choice of two- or three-piece boom assemblies. Power is provided by powerful 101hp diesel engines, with hydrostatic transmissions. There is a choice of 6.4 or 8.2 metre lift heights and capacities of 2.8 or 3.2 tonnes. The hydrostatic transmission is a speciality of Merlo and delivers ease of use and excellent precision.

Merlo Turbofarmer range of telehandlers

The Turbofarmer family has a wide choice of models, with load capacities rising to 4.1 tonnes and lift heights extending to almost 10 metres. Each Turbofarmer has an excellent, robust chassis and the unique Merlo “Ring of Steel” feature, which provides added strength to the chassis by way of a solid 70mm diameter steel ring. These telehandlers are again built for safe and comfortable handling and are capable of operating on difficult and uneven terrain, where their low centre of gravity increases stability.

The Panoramic Medium Lift range has a 102hp turbocharged engine, frame levelling technology and a boom sideshift feature. They also boast both boom and axle suspension, which adds to the comfort and stability of the machine. Maximum lift weights vary from 3.4 to 3.6 tonnes and lift heights reach 10 metres. This family also has great 360-degree visibility and one of the largest cabs around. The Panoramic High Lift family extends load capacities to 4 tonnes and lift heights up to a lofty 17 metres. The Panoramic Heavy Lift family are truly robust machines and have a lift capacity of an impressive 12 tonnes.

ROTO telehandlers

Merlo’s ROTO telehandlers offer a new concept in stability and strength, comprising a family of 13 different models. Lift heights extend to a truly impressive 30 metres. The Multifarmer telehandlers, meanwhile, offers farmers real flexibility, providing tractor functionality such as a PTO, rear three-point linkage and a lift capacity of three tonnes. By combining a tractor and telehandler in one, the Multifarmer can provide operators with new levels of efficiency and reduced costs.

For those looking for a used telehandler, the Merlo range offers a model for almost any operation.
