Kuhn Updates Functionality of Latest Mower
The FC 3160 TCD RA is the latest version of Kuhn's flagship trailed mower-conditioner, and this month it has announced the introduction of some new features which are likely to increase the demand for this already appealing piece of farming machinery.
As a centre pivot-mounted model, this mower is capable of performing productively and flexibly across a range of field configurations, with the use of a clever conveyor system meaning that two grass rows can be combined into a single swath.
This is advantageous because it means that balers and loaders can then collect the grass and process it more efficiently in the wake of the tractor's work, according to Farming UK. This is ideal for accommodating machinery which has a narrower pick-up capacity.
Kuhn spokesperson Duncan McLeish points out that this not only reduces the time it takes to trim and collect large amounts of grass but also means that farmers will be saving fuel in the process by completing baling tasks in fewer passes.
He also said that by combining two rows of grass, the mower reduces the likelihood that other objects or types of foliage will get mixed up because of the need to rake separate swaths together. So many of the issues which might otherwise have been caused by foreign matter entering sensitive harvesting machinery are taken out of the equation.
Time and Fuel Savings of up to 15%
Time and fuel savings of up to 15 per cent are achievable thanks to this new mower, McLeish claims. And it will also mean that grassland areas are not swamped by quite as many machines as might otherwise be required to achieve mowing and collection in a specific time frame, reducing the amount of damage which is done to the soil in the process.
This trailed mower's conveyor system is capable of depositing the cut crop on either the left or right side, depending on what is required at the time. And the operator will have the option of speeding up or slowing down the speed at which it operates on the fly, which is especially useful when working in fields that have different inclines and descents to tackle.
Because it is mounted on a pivoting arm, the FC3160 TCD RA's adjustable positioning makes it possible to combine it with a mower mounted on the front of the tractor so that the working width is increased even further.
Integrated In-Cab Controls
Cutting is carried out by a total of seven discs, providing 3.1 metres of width that should be suitable for a range of organisations. And with integrated in-cab controls, there is no need for the operator to stop and get out of the tractor to make any adjustments that are necessary.
Soil compaction is further limited thanks to the use of wide tyres that are inflated to low levels of pressure, which has the added benefit of allowing the mower to gain traction on inclines without also damaging the surface of the field as the tractor makes forward progress.
Priced at just over 35,000, this new model is an option for farmers in the UK along with used Kuhn mowers, which can be expected to be more affordable.
