JCB Introduces Farm-Friendly Mini Loader

Sometimes the highest-capacity and most powerful piece of machinery is not the best fit for the job, especially when it comes to working in confined spaces like barns and yards. So the new 403 Agri wheeled loader from JCB is likely to appeal to farmers who need a more compact piece of equipment to help them manage dairy, poultry and equestrian operations.

Unlike some small-scale farm machinery, the 403 Agri can be equipped with a full cab that provides additional comfort and protection for the operator, which is a welcome touch. So dealing with cold mornings or boiling afternoons on board will not be an issue.

In terms of its manoeuvrability, this loader cuts an impressively compact figure. It is just 1.1 metres in width, with its slim-profile tyres allowing it to squeeze between obstacles with ease.

Topped off with the full cab, the height of the 403 Agri is slightly under 2.2 metres, giving it plenty of clearance in the kinds of structures that it is likely to need to enter on the farm.

Capable of Fulfilling a Number of Roles

As standard, it comes equipped with a bucket that can accommodate 03. cubic metres of material. It is also compatible with a variety of attachments, making it capable of handling bales or fulfilling a number of other roles.

The loader can lift and tip at heights of up to 2.6 metres using its standard arms, while a high-lift model is on offer, boosting this to 2.8 metres for those customers that require it.

The diesel engine that powers this loader is built by Kubota and offers 92Nm of torque as well as developing 35.5hp, enabling it to hit 30 kilometres per hour when operating at its highest speed setting. The low-speed model reduces this to 20kmph, making it suitable to take on digging and loading tasks with more precision.

Locking differentials on both axles help to improve the traction of the 403 Agri, enabling it to operate on slippery surfaces just as well as it does on concrete, tarmac or gravel. These need to be activated manually, which keeps costs low without compromising on grip.

Hitting the Market in 2017

With smaller types of farm machinery, the need to minimise the turning circle for optimal productivity is great. JCB achieves this with the 403 by giving it an articulated steering system, which the firm indicates is not only effective but also consistent and reliable in its performance, ensuring operators are always in control.

Gear changes and the hydraulic attachments can be controlled using a single joystick, simplifying the input process and further boosting precision. There is even a pedal system that helps to improve the lifespan of brakes and lessen the stress put on them over time, keeping running costs low.

The 403 Agri mini wheeled loader from JCB will be hitting the market in 2017, following in the footsteps of its larger stable mates by adopting some cutting-edge technology and taking a step forward in terms of what it is able to offer customers.
